Serverfarm LON1 Data Center

The city is home to Serverfarm’s first European data center, LON1, highlighting its prominence in the tech world. Serverfarm joined the London data center market in March 2018 after acquiring the facility located in Feltham. Close to Heathrow airport, Serverfarm’s LON1 is strategically located with direct connections to Slough and London’s Docklands. Serverfarm acquired the 10.5MW data center through a sale and partial leaseback. This London colocation data center added another 120,000 square feet to Serverfarm’s existing portfolio, providing Serverfarm customers with a strategic location and an important entry into a vital world-leading market.

London AI Expansion

Serverfarm is planning a new expansion project for its LON1 data center to accommodate the increasing needs of AI deployments. The UK’s AI sector was valued at £72.3 billion ($92 billion) making it the largest in Europe.

The “UK Tech in the Age of AI” report from Tech Nation revealed that in the first quarter of 2024, AI startups received 16% of all UK venture capital investment. Microsoft plans to establish a new AI hub in London with £2.5 billion fund.

The UK hosts over 1,800 VC-backed AI startups, including 20 unicorns such as Synthesia, Wayve, and Stability AI. London & Partners reports that 77% of international business leaders in the AI sector find London to be more supportive of AI development compared to other leading AI hubs. Globally the UK ranks fourth in AI investments behind the US, China, and Israel.
